'The Reef' true story of Ray Boundy



The "true events" on which the movie is based involves the story of 28-year-old Ray Boundy. His story made headlines in 1983 when his boat capsized at the site of the Broadhurst Reef in Townsville. The skipper was traveling with cook and deckhand Linda Horton, 21, and Dennis Murphy, 24, at the time.
Both Horton and Murphy survived in the water for 24 hours before they were attacked by a tiger shark.
Randy Boundy survived 36 hours in the water before he was finally rescued, according to The Courier Mail.


'Open Water' movie based on Eileen Lonergan and Tom Lonergan



The true story happened in 1998 when Eileen and Tom Lonergan were stranded at sea while scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef. The Louisiana couple had been traveling with several scuba divers when they were mistakenly left behind.

The couple's disappearance became apparent 3 days later after a crew member found their bags and realized the couple was not aboard the boat.


'Broken Silence' movie true story of 'East Bay rapist' Tony Ransom



"Broken Silence" aka "Race Against Fear" is about a high school track student who is training to enter the Olympics with the help of her track coach Mr. Ansom. But things take a turn after Coach Ansom rapes her on the school campus. Her mother is the only person who believes her story.
The true story made headlines in 1997 when Tony Lawayne Ransom, known as the "East Bay rapist," was arrested for brutally raping several women near a university campus. Coach Ransom also coached a girl's team at a local high school.


'The Perfect Nanny' movie likely inspired by Nannie Doss



"The Perfect Nanny" is about a newly released mental patient, who spends her time reading romance booksand fantasizing about meeting the perfect man. While working as a nanny in the home of a very wealthy gentleman, who seems to fit her idea of the "the perfect" man, she becomes obsessed and kills everyone who threatens her chances of marrying Mr. Right.


'Baby Shower' movie true story of Jocelyn Rivas-Gayle Merrick murder



"Baby Shower," a Chilean horror movie, follows a group of four girlfriends who reunite to celebrate Angela's pregnancy. When the group meets up with hippie guru Soledad, strange events occur leaving several of the women dead.

The real events

In 2007, a woman was found dead at a commune in Pirque, Santiago, Chile. Police say, Jocelyn Rivas, 28, died after giving birth to her child.
She was later buried on the grounds of the community compound without receiving permission from Chilean authorities. Members of the community are said to live a very peaceful life on a beautiful landscape in the mountainous region of Pirque.


Susan LeFevre: True story that should be a movie



This is a story that most will remember seeing onOprah. It was the story of Susan LeFevre, a mom, who was living a secret life. It was a secret that she would keep for 32 years from her family until a knock at the door changed everything.

It all started in 1975 when 19 year-old Susan Lefevre was arrested for selling heroine to an undercover cop. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to up to 20 years behind bars, according to CBS.

'The Stranger I Married' true story of Terry Evanshen



The movie is based on the book "The Man Who Lost Himself: The Terry Evanshen Story," by June Callwood. Most of the names remained the same during the movie. It stars David James Elliott and Wendy Crewson.

"The Stranger I Married" is about a popular Canadian football star who loses his memory after a car crash. The man wakes up from the coma and is unable to remember anything about his past life, including his family members. The movie is told from the point of view of the wife.


'The Perfect Roommate' true story possibly based on Sawan Navarat



"The Perfect Roommate" is about a woman who works as a waitress at an Asian restaurant. After she divorces her husband, she takes in a roommate with a shady past. When the waitress begins to investigate her roommate's past, she finds out that her roommate is accused of murdering her husband's lover.

The true story that most likely inspired "The Perfect Roommate" made headlines in 1991, when Sawan Navarat was accused of killing her husband's mistress, Opapin Ponvisutrakul aka Orapin Pornvisutrakol. Themurder case happened in California.

Police say that Navarat found out that Opapin was having an affair with her husband.
